6 Creative Ways to Reveal Your Baby's Sex on Social

Everyone already knows you’re pregnant, but what about when you want to share the baby’s sex with your friends and relatives near and far? Sure, posting your sex-definitive sonogram (which you’ll get around 18 to 20 weeks) on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc., will get the job done, but what if you want to get a little more creative? Now’s the perfect time to document your bump and get some cute post-able pics in the process. Read on for some of our favorite ideas.

Host (and document!) a gender reveal party.

If you go the party route (which you can read all about here), you’re going to want to document it anyway. So just be sure to capture at least one truly ’gram-worthy shot, whether it’s a candid photo of your balloon release, or a posed pic of your candy-spilling cake.

Employ existing siblings.

If you’re pregnant with baby No. 2 (or 3 or 4!), put your existing kid(s) to work with a little photo shoot. Dress them in “Big Brother” or “Big Sister” tees and have them hold an “It’s a…” sign, whether it’s printed or hand drawn, or makes use of a chalkboard, letterboard, or cinema lightbox.

Make a confetti confession.

Grab a handful of pink or blue confetti and get that Boomerang ready—either blow the sparkles right into the camera for a shimmery closeup, or give them a toss for a true celebratory vibe.

Let tiny shoes tell the news.

Everyone loves a good foot photo. Grab a teeny tiny pair of shoes typical for boys or girls (like baby Air Jordans or some rose gold baby moccs—whatever your style!), and shoot them from above next to your own mama-to-be feet.

Broadcast by balloon.

You don’t need a whole bunch to make your news clear—get a single helium-filled balloon in pink or blue and have fun taking snaps, whether it’s just you or your partner too.

Say it with sweets.

This is a common way to reveal a baby’s sex on social media, but there’s a good reason for that: sweets make for such a cute pic! Bubble gum, ice cream, cotton candy—choose your favorite treat in pink or blue and do a fun photo shoot. If you go the gum route, blowing a big bubble is necessary; a close-up of your hand holding an ice cream cone will keep the likes coming (get a complementary mani if you really want to commit); or hold that cotton candy in front of your face, so that only your excited eyes show.
